The RKO Dataplex “Digital Life Campus” is a proposed 350,000 square foot Technopark and Data Center telecommunications complex that includes high tech office space, a community seminar space, and a community performance center.

As far back as 2003, plans were on the drawing board to purchase Flushing’s RKO Keith’s Theater and retrofit the building as a massive Data Center and Telecommunications facility. The concept is a novel solution to a long vacant historically landmarked building.

No Parking Requirement - Data Centers don't need parking lots, therefore the community-developer parking space conflict is eliminated.
T-shaped intersection - Homeowners adverse to very bad Feng Shui will neither buy nor live in condos on a dead end street or a T-Shaped intersection. A Data Center eliminates that problem as no one resides there.
No FAA Height Restrictions - A Data Center doesn't require additional height or any costly vertical construction. Air restrictions from LaGuardia is a moot issue and construction costs are eliminated.
First Queens Data Center - Lower property rates in Queens translates to competitive data center rates that will retain New York City tech businesses as opposed to losing revenue to New Jersey data centers. Manhattan businesses seeking disaster recovery would no longer need to travel to Long Island or Westchester where connectivity is poorer and transit more costly.
Historical Landmark Protection - Retrofitting Landmarked buildings as data centers is very common. For example, 111 8th Avenue, Chelsea Market, 60 Hudson St in Manhattan, 350 East Cermek and The Marquette in Chicago are all examples of National Historic Landmark converted data centers. Data Centers interests are naturally aligned with protecting the landmark and restoring the building to its most beautiful possible state and original charm.
The Dataplex would provide fully modular colocation as well as a DCAAS platform. Certifications for banking, accounting, finance and health record storage (FINRA, HIPAA, SSAE16, PCIDSS) would support the local business community.
